The Challenge

Fish and chip shops are among the most energy-intensive businesses on the high street. Deep-fat fryers, extraction systems, refrigeration units, lighting and food preparation equipment all contribute to substantial electricity consumption throughout the day.

Pudsey Road Fisheries wanted to reduce its reliance on grid electricity and protect the business from future energy price increases. However, it was equally important that the installation was completed quickly and efficiently to avoid disruption to trading.

The available roof space was also limited, requiring a carefully designed system that would maximise energy generation from every available square metre.

The Solution

Following a detailed site survey, we designed a solar PV and battery storage system that made the most of the available roof space while delivering the highest possible energy yield.

The battery storage system allows excess solar energy generated during the day to be stored for later use, while also enabling the business to take advantage of cheaper overnight electricity tariffs when required. This helps further reduce energy costs and improve overall system performance.

The installation was carefully planned and completed with minimal disruption to the day-to-day operation of the business.

Results & Outcomes

The solar PV and battery storage installation has provided Pudsey Road Fisheries with a practical and cost-effective solution to rising energy costs, helping the business take greater control of its electricity usage and reduce its reliance on the grid.

Despite the limited roof space available, the system has been carefully designed to maximise energy generation and deliver strong long-term value. The addition of battery storage allows the business to store excess solar energy generated during the day and use it when required, helping to reduce electricity purchases during peak-rate periods. The battery also enables the business to take advantage of lower-cost overnight electricity tariffs, further improving overall savings.

For a business operating in the energy-intensive hospitality sector, every reduction in running costs helps improve profitability and resilience against future energy price increases. By generating and storing its own renewable energy, Pudsey Road Fisheries has taken an important step towards improving its long-term sustainability while maintaining the high-quality service its customers have come to expect.

The installation also supports the business's environmental goals, reducing carbon emissions and demonstrating a commitment to more sustainable operations. Combined with P4 Solar's initiative to plant 100 trees in the company's name, the project delivers both financial and environmental benefits that will continue for many years to come.
